Supplication after Salah

If you are from Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh or some other countries in the Eastern part of the world, you must have noticed this - Right after the salah, the Imaam makes a general supplication and everyone follows him. This is making dua in a group.

We might have never spared a thought about this, but I think it is worth asking the question -- 'Is it alright to do this?'

The plain and simple answer is NO. I will provide the ruling at the end.

You might ask, 'What's wrong in doing this?' 'I mean, aren't we just making dua?' 'Isn't making dua a good thing?'

To this it can be said, 'Yes, it is good to make dua, but to make an action repetitive and almost obligatory (some folks tend to think there is no Salah without it) is an innovation. And what is an innovation? It is the most dangerous plot of Shaytaan, because if a person commits sin, he may know that his action is wrong, but if a person commits an innovation (read bid'ah) he thinks he is being virtuous, and that is a dangerous state to be in.

If you've taken out the time to read the article (and I'm sure you did :) ) you will realize that outwardly the actions of the mubdatidoon (those practising bid'ah) seem fair and nice, but in reality they are far away from guidance.

To those who say 'This is a trivial issue and the Ummah has bigger problems!' I say 'Agreed!' but what good is an Ummah that replaces the sunnah with a bid'ah. That's right! There are many supplications that are to be read 'individually' after salah, but because of this innovation, people have missed out on the virtue of the supplications proven in the sunnah. I've provided a link to those supplications and I urge all of you to read and memorize them and recite them after salah and to desist from this bid’ah.
